Prior to 1969, Australia did not have a national number for emergency services; the police, fire and ambulance services possessed many phone numbers, one for each local unit.

Day in our Life

ESTA's call-takers and dispatchers are dedicated to the job of helping people in emergency situations. In fact, they are not just dedicated, they hold a true passion for the role.

They encounter many different situations that require them to assist someone they have never met before - who may be facing a life or death situation- and offer them assistance over the phone while dispatching the relevant emergency service to respond to the caller.

Look behind the scenes and see what it's like to be an ESTA call-taker or dispatcher.
